Swans Win At United For First Time In History

Swansea City pulled off a famous victory as they beat Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford for the first time in their history to make it through to the next round of the FA Cup.

Swansea dominated possession in the early exchanges of this FA Cup tie but United looked the more likely to score.

The visitors did however open the scoring at Old Trafford when they produced a wonderful bit of passing football before Wayne Routledge was put through on goal, and the midfielder neatly clipped the ball over the onrushing Anders Lindegaard in the United goal, to make it 1-0 with 12 minutes on the clock.

David Moyes’ men however did not wait long to give a response and levelled terms within five minutes of conceding the opener. Mexican goal-poacher Javier Hernandez lost his marker and got on the end of a cross from left-back Alex Buttner to make it 1-1.

The Swans had another attempt at goal on the half-hour mark when Jonathan De Guzmán struck a free-kick which Lindegaard did well to save.

The second-half started off extremely slow with both side’s not wanting to concede.

The Red Devils manager then threw on young star Adnan Januzaj to try and force an opening and breathe some life into the United attack on the hour mark.

With the game deadlocked at 1-1 both side’s did push forward in search of a winner, and the young Belgium born winger did cause some problems for the Swansea defence.

The game looked likely to end up in a replay until Michael Laudrup’s men claimed a famous victory at Old Trafford when striker Wilfried Bony scored a 90th minute header to put them through to the next round of the FA Cup.
