World Cup Qualifying – Group F
Result: Nigeria 1-1 Kenya
Date: 23 March 2013
Venue: UJ Esuene Stadium
Nigeria had to rely on a stoppage-time goal to steal a 1-1 draw with Kenya in their World Cup qualifier in Calabar.
The Kenyan goal was under siege early on and it was Brian Onyango who was lucky to keep Victor Moses from scoring from a corner. The pressure remained and minutes later Jamal Mohammed was forced to clear with a header off the line, but then Brown Ideye also had a good chance, however, he scuffed his final shot after finding himself through on goal.
Surprisingly, against the run of play Kenya took the lead when Francis Kahata delivered a world-class free-kick which beat Vincent Enyeama and flew into the top corner.
Nigeria continued to push for the goal and were unlucky to be denied when Victor Moses saw his shot saved from point-blank range.
With time running out, Nigeria introduced substitute Nnamdi Oduamadi in place of Afcon star Sunday Mba and the change proved brilliant as Oduamadi delivered the equaliser four minutes into stoppage-time to give his side a share of the points.
