Super Eagles Held In Namibia

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were unable to make the most of Malawi's draw as they ended up sharing the spoils away to Namibia after playing out a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night in a 2014 World Cup qualifier.

The Namibians came into the game after seeing coach Roger Palmgren resign due to death threats, with Ricardo Mannetti coming in to replace him for the game.

Nigeria also had some concerns coming into the game, and saw Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel defy medical advice to play on the astro turf in Windhoek.

The African champions did a lot of the early attacking in the game but Namibia goalkeeper Lazarus Kaimbi put in a superb shift to frustrate their opponents.

The Brave Warriors then received their reward for a determined display when substitute Deon Hotto Kavendji fired home with 14 minutes to go.

Nigeria would not be denied though and saw Godfrey Oboabona grab the equaliser seven minutes later as the points were shared.

The result means that Nigeria will now have to wait until September to see if they top the group in what will be a crucial clash with Malawi.

The Flames also failed to keep Nigeria under pressure earlier in the day when they played out a 2-2 draw with Kenya. Chimango Kayira scored a dramatic late own goal to hand the Harambee Stars a share of the points.
