Sturridge Completes Reds Switch

Liverpool have completed the £12 million capture of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea as they look to bolster their attacking options.

The 23-year-old signed a long term contract with the Merseysiders and will provide Brendan Rodgers with more fire power for the second portion of the season.

Luis Suarez has been Liverpool’s only available senior striker this season after Andy Carroll was shipped off on loan and Fabio Borini suffered an injury early on.

Sturridge’s chances at Chelsea have been limited so far this season with a hamstring problem hampering the forward’s progress.

However, with the injury behind him the England international is looking forward to making an impact at his new club.

Sturridge is likely to make his debut in Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie at Blue Square Bet Premier side Mansfield.

“I am humbled and happy to be here,” the former Manchester City player said. “Brendan Rodgers said he sees me here for a long time - and I also see myself here for a long time. I’ve not signed here to play for a couple of years and then move on.

“I’ve signed to be here for as long as possible. It’s a humongous club – for me, one of the biggest in the world – and to have the fans and world-class players we have here is amazing.”

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre admitted that the club have been eyeing Sturridge for quite some time and was understandably overjoyed to have finally got his man.

"Daniel is somebody we've always had in our sights and somebody the manager has had huge interest in right from the start.

"I'm very pleased that we've got the right player and the right deal."
