Stoke, City In Stalemate

Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City continued to stutter in the Barclays Premiership as they fired blanks in front of goal in their 0-0 draw against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

The draw was City’s first of the league season and sees them on seven points form their four league games.

For Stoke, it was also their first draw and sees them also on seven points along with the likes of City and Manchester United

The game itself, though, was characterised by some sloppy passing in the middle of the park, poor decision making in the final third and bad finishing in front of goal.

City started the match without the likes of Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero who were out injured. The loss in attacking prowess certainly showed for City.

Nonetheless, City did start the more positive of the two sides and fired shots on goal early on with Samir Nasri shooting straight at the keeper and then Aleksander Kolarov firing over from just outside the box.

In the 14th minute Stoke had a great chance to take the lead as Jon Walters headed a Charlie Adam cross agonisingly wide.

Just after the half hour mark some sloppy defending allowed Stoke a chance on goal, but Joe Hart was on hand to deny Kenwyne Jones.

The second 45 saw Stoke playing the better football and were unlucky not to take the lead in the 53rd minute as jones met another inch perfect cross from Adams, but his header went inches over the crossbar.

With 15 minutes left, a magnificent save from Hart kept the scores level. Matija Nastasic connected with substitute Arnautovic's cross, and would have scored an own goal but for Hart's reaction save before Jones' follow-up was clipped over.

The game ended 0-0.
