Spurs Eye Damiao and Soldado

Tottenham Hotspur are thinking big, as they seek to ensure Gareth Bale that their ambitions lie beyond the Europa League.

So much of the end of season hype surrounds White Hart Lane, with Spurs determined to portray the image of a club on the up, despite their painful failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs have designs on a top-four finish next season, if not an actual title challenge, and have lined up two mouth-watering potential transfers in order to help them do so.

First, the London club hopes to act on its long-held ambition to sign Brazilian international striker Leandro Damiao.

They have been linked to Damiao for two transfer windows already, after creating a sporting relationship with his club, Internacional, but have twice been thwarted in their bids to sign him.

This time around however, chairman Daniel Levy is said to be confident of landing the dynamic 23-year-old hit-man for a fee in the region of £16 million.

But Damiao is not where Levy’s transfer dealings are set to end. The chairman wants to form a sparkling new frontline at White Hart Lane, by pairing the young Brazilian with experienced Spanish centre forward, Roberto Soldado.

The 27-year-old former Real Madrid forward has been impressive for cash-strapped Valencia this season, scoring 27 goals in all competitions. He could be available for around £20 million should Los Che- currently in fifth-place on goal difference in La Liga- fail to reach next season’s Uefa Champions League.

Damiao and Soldado would look like an immense strike force on paper, with topsy-turvy Emmanuel Adebayor to back them up.

But Spurs seem to miss out on their top striking transfer targets every window. And so it might take more than the mooted sales of midfielders Tom Huddlestone and Scott Parker to ensure the Lane is cheering for an eye-catching new frontline next season.
