Tottenham Hotspur are confident of keeping manager Andre Villas-Boas, despite his continuing flirtation with PSG.
Overnight reports suggest that Spurs are not overly concerned that PSG have earmarked AVB to replace Carlo Ancelotti, should the Italian manager quit for Real Madrid as expected.
Villas-Boas’ representative, Carlos Goncalves, allegedly spent all of last weekend schmoozing with PSG’s Qatari backers, as the French champions seek to lure the Spurs boss to the Parc des Princes.
All of Jose Mourinho, Manuel Pellegrini, Walter Mazzarri, Guus Hiddink, and Fabio Capello have flitted across PSG’s radar as they search for Ancelotti’s likeliest successor, but they are believed to have settled on Villas-Boas.
AVB still has two years left of his current deal with Spurs however, and the London club believes that the strides they are making in the transfer market will convince him to stay, and spearhead their battle for a fourth-place finish and possibly silverware next season.
Spurs have appointed Franco Baldini to augment AVB’s efforts in the transfer market, and it is believed they are close to completing eye-catching signings like Brazilians Paulinho and Leandro Damiao.
Spurs hope those developments will convince AVB that a glittering future in North London is afoot, and that he should bat away PSG’s come hither glances.
