A brace from David Zurutuza helped Real Sociedad come from two goals behind to beat Real Madrid 4-2 in a La Liga match at the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta on Sunday night.
Madrid started like a house on fire with Sergio Ramos opening the scoring after only five minutes after powering home a Toni Kroos corner, 1-0.
Ramos almost found his second in the tenth minute when he struck the crossbar with a 24-yard free-kick.
A minute later the away side did double their lead whenGareth Bale beat one defender on his way into the box before poking it home in emphatic fashion, 2-0.
Sociedad began to mount their comeback in the 35th minute when Inigo Martinez pulled a goal back after he latched onto a flicked on corner-kick at the back post, tapping the ball home from close range, 2-1.
Five minutes later Zurutuza levelled matters with his first of two goals on the night when he powered a header into the net after a fizzed cross into the box from De La Bella, 2-2.
Zurutuza scored his second of the night, and what proved to be the winner, in the 65th minute after he turned home a low cross from Xabi Prieto, 3-2.
Carlos Vela made certain of all three points from the home side ten minutes later when he again made the most of sloppy defending from Madrid to smash a flicked on cross into the roof of the net at the back post, 4-2.
Madrid tried to find their way back into the game and even struck the woodwork in the 90th minute via a strike for Karim Benzema.
The win was Sociedad’s first of the league campaign and Madrid’s first defeat.
