A brace each from Jese and Gerard Deulofu saw Spain to a convincing 4-1 victory over USA in their opening Group A 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup match in Turkey on Friday night.
It was an impressive display from the young Spaniards as they dazzled the packed Ali Sami Yen Arena in Istanbul with a result that took them to the top of their group. For USA, they prop up the bottom of Group A while France occupy second spot after beating Ghana earlier in the day.
Spain were quick out of the gates and opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute through Jese who heading home a pinpoint cross from the outstanding Deulofeu, 1-0.
And it was Deulofeu who doubled Spain’s lead three minutes before the break as the Barcelona man curled a fantastic right-foot shot beyond the helpless Cody Cropper and just inside the right-hand post, 2-0.
Jese virtually put the result beyond doubt before the half time whistle as he scored his side’s third goal in the 44th minute after Javier Manquillo dribbled into the box and squared to an unmarked Jese who provided a clinical finish, 3-0.
The second half continued in the same vein and it was not long before they scored again as Deulofu found his brace in the 61st minute. Again the Barcelona forward was superb as he danced through the Spanish defence, rounded the keeper and slotted home from an acute angle, 4-0.
USA did find a consolation goal in the 71st minute through Luis Gil but it was all too little too late as Spain ran out 4-1 winners.
