Luis Suarez admits that he was overcome by red mist when he bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic last season.
The Liverpool striker was subsequently banned for 10 games, putting his Liverpool future in doubt.
Once he had left England for the Uruguay camp, Suarez then began agitating for a move away from Anfield. And so it will come as little consolation to Reds fans- who have been backing Suarez from an indefensible position- to hear him finally admit that he “lost it.”
"I know I made a mistake in the incident with Ivanovic - it was me, my fault, and he didn't do anything to me,” Suarez said by way of apology, according to Soccernet.
"I was just angry as I had given away a penalty for handball a few minutes earlier. I saw red and completely lost it.
"I can't really explain it and I am so sorry - but the reaction was amazing."
It is not clear what Suarez means by “the reaction was amazing.”
Perhaps he was referring to the unflinching support he has been given by the Reds faithful, against their better judgement.
But the controversial striker is surely losing fans on Merseyside by the day (even though they want him to stay for his footballing abilities), due to his continuing flirtation with Real Madrid.
"I'd like to play with Cristiano Ronaldo," said Suarez, just to maintain the titillation. "You never know - but it's complicated."
