Solskjaer Confirmed As Cardiff Boss

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been confirmed as the new manager of Cardiff City.

The former Norway International spent Thursday morning at the club's training ground after holding further talks with chairman Mehmet Dalman over replacing Malky Mackay, who had been sacked last week friday.

After flying in to meet owner Vincent Tan, he watched his new side suffer a late 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on New Year's Day.

the 40-year-old has led Molde to back-to-back Norwegian titles, following 14 years as a player and coach working under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, as Reserve team head coach.

Former Norway team-mate Claus Lundekvam believes Cardiff are getting a high class manager and has backed his fellow countryman to cope with the demands of the contentious Vincent Tan.

"He's a great manager in my view," he told Sky Sports News. "He was at a great school under Sir Alex Ferguson.

"For two years he was a reserve coach at Manchester United and he learned a lot, but in his three years in Norway he's done fantastic things with Molde.

"He wouldn't have taken this if he wasn't tempted to take over with the squad he has available. But it's important for him to have complete control of the sporting side of things and he will want that guaranteed."

Solskjaer looks likely to bring members of his backroom team with him from Molde, with Mark Dempsey and goalkeeping coach Richard Hartis set to follow him, having worked with the pair at Old Trafford.

"He needs to be in control of everything and I'm sure he will bring his staff from Molde," added Lundekvam. "I'm also sure he will have money available to help keep Caridff in the Premier League this season."

"Vincent Tan is a great businessman - he's very wealthy and Cardiff need his money - but I don't like him interfering with the sporting side of things because he hasn't got a clue about football.

"He's changed so much at that club. He asked his goalkeeper why he hasn't scored any goals.

"Ole is calm and collected but he is firm. He has learned you need to be firm as a manager."
