A solitary penalty goal from Roberto Soldado saw Tottenham Hotspur earn a hard fought 1-0 win over Swansea at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
It was Soldado’s debut for Spurs and he capped if off with a decent performance and a fine finish from the penalty spot to give the London-based club the three points.
The first-half was a rather scrappy affair as the play was congested in the midfield and neither teams was really able to create chances in front of goal.
Paulinho was also in fine form, but saw his few chances on goal in the opening stanza well stopped by the Swansea defence.
The best chance of the first half fell to Ashley Williams in the 21st minute when he met a Kyle Walker cross, but his effort bounced off the crossbar.
Paulinho was first to the loose ball, however, but his goalbound shot was blocked excellently by the recovering Williams.
The second half saw Spurs dominating the play and they were awarded a penalty-kick in the 58th minute after Andros Townsend was pulled down inside the box by Jonjo Shelvey.
Soldado stepped up and coolly converted the spot kick to give Spurs the lead, 1-0.
Swansea tried to fight back but were unable to find the equaliser as Spurs won their second match of the season.
