Sneijder Is For Sale

Galatasaray have confirmed that Wesley Sneijder could be sold.

The diminutive Dutch international midfielder only joined the Turkish giants from Inter Milan in January.

And while he helped them win the league and qualify for the last-eight of the Champions League, Sneijder is not considered vital to Gala’s plans for the future.

He has been linked to London clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the past few weeks, and Gala president, Unal Aysal, has now admitted that Sneijder can go if the price is right.

“I have been following the rumours about Sneijder, but we have not received an offer for him,” Aysal told Turkish newspaper Sabah.

“If an offer in the region of €15 million (£12.75 million) comes in, we might decide to sell him though.”

But whether the interest of Spurs or Chelsea is for real remains to be seen.

29-year-old Sneijder’s best form is patently well behind him, and he was even recently demoted by Holland, losing his place as skipper of the Oranje to Manchester United superstar, Robin van Persie.

That axing made Sneijder realise he must work harder if he is regain his previous status in world football.

“It was a pretty painful announcement. Not just because I never saw this coming, but also because I have always given my all in the role as captain,” Sneijder told De Telegraaf.

“I will have to accept this, though. It was a huge blow for me. The coach told me that I should focus on myself for now and use my energy to regain top fitness.

“I was planning to do that any way, though. I am more eager than ever before.

“I know that I have not shown enough recently and that I will have to step it up a notch. But I am confident that I can reach my level from the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 again.”
