Shinji To Start At Last?

Shinji Kagawa could be unleashed by Manchester United in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Japanese international playmaker has been a significant absentee from the Red Devils squad so far this season, and with each match that passes, frenzied calls for his inclusion increase.

After trying and failing to lure a new schemer to Old Trafford during the transfer window, the sense is that there has been one there all along: Kagawa.

He had been in line to feature for United against Crystal Palace last weekend, but reportedly fell ill before the game.

Now, manager David Moyes could be set to use Kagawa’s experience of German football from his time at Borussia Dortmund, when United welcome Bayer Leverkusen to the Theatre of Dreams for their first group stage game of this season’s Champions League.

Kagawa trained with his team-mates on Monday, and will be desperate to prove his value to the team against Leverkusen, who have made a storming start to their domestic campaign, managed by former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia.

United fans will also be pleased to know that Scottish midfielder, Darren Fletcher, was back in training on Tuesday.

Fletcher trained away from the main group, by the signs are looking good that his debilitating illness has been defeated for now.

United will be keen to get off to a positive start in the Champions League this season.

It’s never easy in Europe’s most important competition, but there will be great surprise if the English champions do not advance from their group with Leverkusen, Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Sociedad, giving rookie manager Moyes the chance to find his feet at the highest level.
