Shakhtar Donetsk have completed the signing of Brazil talent Bernard from Atletico Mineiro in a deal worth around GBP 21.5 million.
The attacker had attracted interest from English Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, though the player's father and agent had both claimed that the player wanted to move to FC Porto.
Shakhtar had an offer for the player accepted last week, though it was said that no agreement between the player and the Ukrainian club had been reached as he was considering the best possible move.
Despite Delio Duarte have accused Atletico of using his son "like a puppet", it seems that they made a U-turn on their decision as Bernard has now penned a five-year contract with the club.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Shakhtar Donetsk signed a 5-year deal with Bernard. The transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder, who previously played for Atletico Mineiro, is 25 million euros."
Bernard helped his former club to the Copa Libertadores while he also put in some eye-catching performances at the FIFA Confederations Cup as Brazil claimed the title.
