Santi Stunned By Ozil's Signing

Mesut Ozil continued his scoring for Germany, slotting home from the penalty spot as they moved close to booking their place at the World Cup in Brazil on Tuesday night.

He also took the corner that resulted in Germany’s opening goal, when his new club-mate, Per Mertesacker, headed home.

There have been daily reports of excitement and confusion emanating from the Arsenal camp ever since Ozil signed for the club from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day.

Excitement that the Gunners may finally have the player they have needed since Cesc Fabregas left for Barcelona. And confusion that Madrid let arguably Germany’s finest player go so easily.

Fabregas himself cannot believe his old team’s luck.

And now the former Gunners skipper’s Spanish international team-mate, Santi Cazorla, is the latest Arsenal man to echo Cesc’s sentiments.

He says he is stunned that Los Blancos jettisoned a player of Ozil’s obvious abilities, and that he cannot wait to link up with him at the Emirates.

"I am very happy that Ozil is here. He is a spectacular player and we are very lucky we are going to learn alongside him,” Cazorla told Marca.

"I don't understand that [why Real Madrid sold him], he is a unique player. You will have to ask the club for reasons why they sold them, but at the same time he didn't think he was getting the opportunities he deserved and luckily he has come to us.

"He is an important player and he is going to be very good for the team and the way we play. I hope he can help us fight against the big teams in the Premier League."

Meanwhile, Cazorla has reassured Gunners fans that he is fully committed to the London club’s cause, claiming that the rumours linking him to Ateltico Madrid during the last transfer window were false.

"The Atletico president said there was nothing in this, and I always very relaxed about it," he said.
