Barcelona jumped back to the top of the La Liga table with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Elche thanks to a hat-trick by Alexis Sanchez.
Barcelona took an early lead in the seventh minute when Jordi Alba broke down the left wing and fire in a low cross to the back post which Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez slotted home into the roof of the net to make it 1-0.
Elche did however put up a fight and almost levelled terms in the 13th minute when Boayke found himself in the Barcelona penalty area before smashing a powerful drive against the upright.
Gerardo Martino’s men then doubled their lead soon after that warning when Pedro was played in by a wonderful defence splitting through ball before rounding Tono and rolling the ball into the empty net.
Pedro had two glorious chances to add to the score-line but the Spanish international when he miss-kicked a Fabregas cross in the 27th minute before his lob over Tonno went just over the crossbar on the half-hour mark.
Chile international Sanchez then should have done better a few minutes before the end of the first-half, when he side-footed into the side-netting from close range when he should have scored.
Things got worse for Elche in the second-half when the home side was awarded a penalty in the 49th minute after Sapunaru brought down Fabregas in the box. Xavi stepped up to take the spot-kick but placed his penalty just wide of the right hand post to the relief of the visitors.
Barca did then go on to find a third and fourth goal after the penalty miss with Sanchez completing his treble.
The Chilean first tapped home from close range after being setup by Pedro in the 62nd minute before he struck a wonderful free-kick around the wall to make 4-0 and complete his hat-trick with 69 minutes played.
Both sides created a few late chances but Barcelona reclaimed the top spot ahead of Atletico Madrid on goal difference thanks to a treble by their Chilean forward.
