Southampton beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield today, thanks to a Dejan Lovren goal in the second-half.
Southampton's Adam Lallana had a chance in the 4th minute but his shot from outside the box went high and wide, and seconds later Liverpool's Jordan Henderson tried an attempt from long range but Artur Boruc saved it.
In the sixth minute Boruc was back in action, this time saving a shot from Lucas Leiva, his shot also coming from outside the area.
Ten minutes later Rickie Lambert came close for the Saints, but his shot missed to the left.
Steven Gerrard tried to give Liverpool the lead in the 22nd minute, but Boruc made another save to deny the Reds.
Lambert had another chance for Southampton in the 27th minute but his shot was easily saved by Simon Mignolet, and a minute later a Pablo Osvaldos shot was close but missed to the right.
Victor Moses came close in the 38th minute but his shot was well saved by Boruc.
In the 45th minute Daniel Sturridge saw his header from a Gerrard corner just fly over, and at half-time it was goalless.
The Saints started the second-half positively and had two early attempts, first from Jay Rodriguez and then from Lallala but both were dealt with by Mignolet.
Southampton went into the lead in the 53rd minute when Dejan Lovren got onto the end of Lallana's corner and headed it home to give them a 1-0 away lead.
Gerrard forced another save out of Boruc in the 61st minute when he shot from outside of the box.
Luke Shaw tried to double the Southampton lead in the 68th minute but his shot was saved.
Sturridge missed another chance in the 79th minute as Liverpool pushed for an equalizer.
In the 83rd minute Steven Davis forced another save out of Mignolet, and four minutes later Luis Alberto missed a chance to the left for Liverpool, as both teams pressed for a goal.
