As if Wednesday night’s showdown between Manchester United and Liverpool in the Capital One Cup needed any additional spice, both Robin van Persie and Luis Suarez are slated to make their returns to action.
United are looking for revenge after losing to their biggest rivals 1-0 at Anfield early in the new season.
And both teams are licking their wounds and seeking an immediate pick-me-up after slumping to weekend defeats.
United were hammered by Manchester City, and badly missed their star striker van Persie, who watched the game from the stands due to a groin strain.
It was the first Premier League match in more than two years that the once injury prone Dutchman had missed.
"We thought Robin would be okay. We gave him every chance. It's nothing serious. He could be involved on Wednesday or next weekend," United manager David Moyes confirmed.
“I don't think it is going to be long. He just felt something in his groin in training. We didn't want to aggravate it."
"Obviously you miss Robin van Persie. He is a huge miss to anyone but we have got a strong squad."
Suarez meanwhile, also watched Liverpool’s sorry home defeat to Southampton from the stands, as he sat out the last of his biting ban matches.
He is champing at the bit to get back to action, and is likely to return against the Red Devils.
