Rooney: Don't Blame Moyes

Wayne Rooney has publicly backed Manchester United manager, David Moyes, for the first time this season.

Speaking after United needed two goals from teen sensation Adnan Januzaj to stave off defeat against Sunderland at the weekend, Rooney parroted Ryan Giggs’s assertion that the players have let the gaffer down.

Starting the season as champions, United certainly have the players to challenge for the title, if not defend it.

But they came close to losing their fourth Premier League game of the season at the weekend and Rooney says that Moyes is not to blame.

The England striker- who has a notoriously tetchy relationship with Moyes- says that it is the Red Devils players who have to accept culpability for Moyes’ shaky start to life at Old Trafford.

"Obviously the manager is under a bit of pressure but we know as a team it's we who have let him down. We have to pull together for the manager and show the sort of fight we have done here and we'll be fine," said Rooney.

"This will be a transition season, because it's a new manager with different styles and we have to adapt to them. More importantly we need to do better for him than we have been."

"I think that's what we needed, to get the three points and to show a bit of character as a team,” Rooney added, after Januzaj’s heroics against the Black Cats.

"A win like this can turn things around. I think us as players know we haven't been good enough. A new manager has come in and we haven't been good enough for him."
