Ronaldo Scores As Real Progress

Real Madrid will meet Espanyol in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey as they beat Osasuna 2-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate, at the Estadio El Sadar on Wednesday.

Goals from Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentine winger Angel Di Maria was enough to earn Carlo Ancelotti’s men a win in a game that they were hardly troubled.

This Copa del Rey match started off slowly as neither side could find a way through their opposition’s defence, with the onus on the home side after coming into this second leg tie 2-0 down.

Osasuna did dominate possession in the opening quarter-hour until recently crowned Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo stepped up to break the deadlock in this second-leg cup tie.

The Portuguese superstar whipped a trademark free-kick straight at Osasuna goalkeeper Andres Fernandez in the 22nd minute which the shot-stopper allowed to slip straight through his fingertips to the disgust of the home fans making it 1-0 to last season’s finalists.

With the away goal Osasuna would have had to find the back of the net four times to progress to the quarter-finals.

The hosts did however come close to pulling one goal back on the stroke of half-time, as Cejudo turned two defenders on the edge of the box before curling his effort towards the bottom corner beating Casillas but not the woodwork.

Los Blancos started off the second period dominating possession and all but ended this cup tie when they scored their second of the game.

Young striker Jese produced a moment of quality to beat his marker before he squared the perfect ball for teammate Di Maria to easily just tap in at the back post with 56 minutes played.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men seemed to ease their foot off the gas after scoring the second and their lead was hardly put in doubt by the hosts.

Fabio Coentrao was then sent off for a second bookable offence in the 85th minute and the Madrid club were forced to play the final few minutes of the game with nine men as substitute striker Alvaro Morata was unable to continue after failing to recover from that knock to his face.

Real finish the game with a resounding 4-0 aggregate victory as they book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey and will meet Espanyol in the next round.
