Robin van Persie has insisted he will fight Radamel Falcao for his place in Manchester United’s starting line-up.
Falcao arrived at Old Trafford on Deadline Day and it is yet to be seen whether Louis Van Gaal will play the Colombian striker alongside Wayne Rooney and Van Persie.
"I welcome his arrival, he makes us better," Van Persie told Fox Sports NL.
"At a top club you should always go for the best, which also fits my philosophy. Falcao must fight for his place, as I also have to."
The Dutchman also rubbished reports that he will be facing a spell on the side-lines and has to go for a knee surgery.
"I am impressed that people come pick up the imagination to invent something like that,” he added
"I do not know where it comes from and can say with my hand on my heart that I won't be in a hospital to have the operation."
Falcao cost Monaco £48 million last summer and has scored 155 goals in his last 199 club games during spells at Porto, Atletico Madrid and Monaco, while Van Persie scored 200 goals in 428 games for Feyenoord, Arsenal and United.
