A report in the Daily Mail on Thursday claims Chelsea are now inclined to offer Frank Lampard a contract extension.
The 34-year-old midfielder is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, and until now the Blues seemed happy to let him slink quietly off.
He is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club, and has been linked to a move to the MLS.
However, as he showed last night in England’s friendly win over Brazil, as well as numerous times for Chelsea this season, Lampard still has more than enough quality to thrive at the highest level.
And according to a source quoted in the Daily Mail, Chelsea and Lampard’s representatives have now held “positive” talks regarding his future at the club.
Lampard has gone on record to say that he would love to stay at the club he has served so well, but that his future there is “out of his hands”.
However, it is now believed that more talks in the coming weeks could see him stay at Chelsea for at least a season longer.
Chelsea refuse to comment on the speculation presently, but they will know their frustrated fans would deem it a tonic, if club legend Lamps was rewarded for his loyalty with a contract extension.
