According to reports in Spain, FC Barcelona have made an outrageous £48 million offer to their bitter rivals for Angel Di Maria.
Spanish publication Sport claim Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, refused to even negotiate the possible transfer.
When asked about the Di Maria rumours today, Barcelona captain, Xavi Hernandez, said it would be difficult for the Catalan giants to land Di Maria.
"He is a great player. But fact is that he is a Real Madrid player at the moment,” he said.
"The past has shown that it is always difficult for a Madrid player to move to Barcelona and the other way around."
Real manager, Carlo Ancelotti, confirmed on Thursday that Di Maria has handed in a transfer request and Manchester United are the frontrunners to sign the Argentine.
However, Paris Saint-Germain are also closely monitoring the situation despite their public withdrawal from the negotiations.
Barcelona are linked with at least one more stellar signing this transfer window, before their FIFA ban kicks in and they won’t be able to sign any players until January 2016.
