Sky Sports Italia, who were the first media outlet to report that Pep Guardiola had signed for Bayern Munich, claims that Tottenham Hotspur have finally agreed to sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.
The London club has been on a lavish spending spree this transfer window, with their low-profile billionaire owner, Joe Lewis, finally loosening his purse strings.
The latest reports suggest Spurs are poised to sign both Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala, as well as highly-rated 21-year-old Argentine forward, Erik Lamela, from Roma.
Spurs will have splashed almost £100million on transfers before the window shuts on 2 September, and the reason they have been able to do so is the impending sale of Bale.
Madrid have long courted the prolific Welsh international, and according to Sky Italia they have finally got their man.
Under the heading “Bale One Step Away From Real: Agreement Reached”, Sky say that Real have agreed to pay a world record fee of £93million for Bale.
If indeed that is the case, BBC football correspondent, Ben Smith, has summed up Spurs’ recent impressive transfer wrangling aptly with the following tweet: “Spurs now look set to complete moves for Willian and Erik Lamela.
“Anyone would think they were about to come into some money.”
