The quotes may come from his agent and so should be taken with a healthy dose of salt and maybe even some pepper, but Yaya Toure apparently wants out at Manchester City.
Over the past few weeks, Ivorian juggernaut Toure has looked less than impressed with City on the field, as their Premier League title defence crumbled.
And according to agent Dimitri Seluk, Toure is not happy behind the scenes either.
Seluk says that if City do not put a contract extension on the table within the “next four days”, Yaya has made his mind up to leave the club.
The agent insists that Toure- who is contracted to the English champions until 2015- is not after more money (he is already the best-paid player in the Premier League)- but that he feels as if the City staff does not “respect” him.
“I do not feel he will stay at City. If he signs a contract in the next four days, OK. If not, we will not wait any longer. We will say, 'Thank you. OK, Yaya will leave in May'.” Seluk told the British tabloid press, according to the Daily Mail.
“This is not about money. He wants to leave for many reasons. He does not feel the respect of the staff,” the agent continued.
“It's a pity City pay big money, but do not understand that human relations mean more than anything. Yaya feels the club do not want him.
“Yaya is extremely well paid at City and is the first to recognise that. But he is the No 1 in the world in his position and can get the same money elsewhere. He has been ready to sign for six months on the same money.
“He is the best box-to-box midfielder in the world. He can also play centre-half, even play centre-forward.
“We want to leave the club, because if they really wanted to do good by Yaya they'd have completed the contract a few months ago.”
Where Toure could go to receive the same wages he does at City is debatable.
Paris Saint Germain could afford him, and would probably snap off the hand of City’s chief negotiator if Yaya did indeed become available.
And clubs in China and the Middle East could also probably bid for the unstoppable African, although it would be a crying shame for him to go there at this stage of his career.
Do you think Yaya could really leave City, or is the agent blowing hot air?
