After he was said to have been caught lying to his club for a bizarre reason, a player, who was part of France's 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, has reportedly had his contract terminated by his employers.
Last year was a memorable one for 33-year-old centre-back Adil Rami, who was a World Cup winner with France in Russia.
While he did not play much of a role on the field, the defender was one of the more experienced members in the dressing room, someone manager Didier Deschamps felt was important to have around.
This year, however, has not been a good one for Rami, who has had a very public split from celebrity partner Pamela Anderson, who branded him a "monster" on Instagram.
Now, according to L'Equipe, Rami has been dismissed by Marseille after the Ligue 1 club found out he had lied to them about being injured so he could miss a training session.
Instead of being with his teammates on the training pitch, Rami was seen competing in a TV show called Fort Boyard, during which he took part in a mud-wrestling battle.
Marseille only found out about his dishonesty more than a month later, when the episode featuring Rami aired on television.
The defender has spent the past two years of his career at Marseille, whom he represented on 75 occasions.
