Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard already has a hotel named after him, and if he leads the Reds back into the Champions League, he may find his name given to an entire Merseyside suburb!
The Reds are currently in seventh place on the Premier League log, 10 points off the final Champions League qualifying spot.
The odds are not in their favour, even though they have one of the easiest season’s run-ins of the traditional big clubs.
Goalkeeper Pepe Reina admits that getting back into the top-four may prove a bridge too far for Liverpool this season. But he is confident that the improvement they have shown of late, coupled with support from the board during the off-season, will see the Reds back in the battle for Europe next time around.
"This year has been important for us in terms of getting to know what the manager wants and develop the ideas,” Reina said.
“Then we have to be ready for the very first game of next season to challenge.
“Obviously we will need some help from the board but I think the basis is well settled. We know the ideas and philosophies of the manager. It is getting better and better so hopefully we will be ready to compete."
Reina has come under criticism this season, and has even been linked to a move away from Anfield.
But the Spanish international shot stopper was back to his imposing best when Liverpool crushed their bogey side Wigan 4-0 away last weekend. And he is happy his own improvement mirrors that of Brendan Rodgers’ work in progress.
"I'm happy and I helped the team," Reina said.
"I did my job. There will be some mistakes along the way but there will also be games like Wigan. The whole group is trying to find the right balance. We will get better, I'm sure of it."
