Despite rumours suggesting Carles Puyol is leaving Barcelona for AC Milan, the spainard has said he wants to spend his last professional years at Camp Nou.
“To go to AC Milan was something I never thought about. But I did think that I might not be able to continue,” said Puyol.
“I would like to go to the end of my three-year contract and even extend if possible. I always said I wanted to play until I am 40, but what would please me is to retire from the game at Barcelona.
“I doubt I could stand another season of injuries like the one I have just had.
“If the problems continue next season I will have to quit. These things happen in football.”
The no-nonsense defender is a product of Barca's famed academy system.
Since stepping up into the senior fold in 1999, he has gone on to enjoy a glittering career - which has brought countless club honours and international glory with Spain.
Injuries have begun to creep in, at the age of 35, but Puyol claims he would welcome the opportunity to play on for five more years.
