Teams: Nigeria v Spain
Date: 23 June 2013
Venue: Estadio Castelao
The Super Eagles of Nigeria face an uphill battle if they aim to stay in the Confederations Cup when they meet Spain on Sunday.
The world and European champions dominated Uruguay in their opener before smashing Tahiti 10-0 in their last encounter. Nigeria, on the other hand, opened with a 6-1 win over Tahiti before suffering a narrow 2-1 loss to Uruguay.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations would now need a win over Spain, as well as some help from Tahiti, to avoid dropping out in the group stages.
Spain are likely to recall a number of their regular players for the game, after giving the fringe stars a run out against Tahiti.
Nigeria, though, can take heart in the fact that in their only meeting, back in the World Cup group stages in 1998, saw the Africans triumph 3-2.
Things have changed drastically for Spain since then though, as they have stormed to two Euro titles as well as winning the World Cup back in 2010 in South Africa.
Victory for Spain would ensure that they set up a date with Italy in the semi-finals, after the Italians went down 4-2 against tournament hosts Brazil on Saturday.
