Portugal had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Israel tonight as a goalkeeping error from Rui Patricio gifted the Israeli's a late equalizer.
Portugal remain second in Group F after Russia beat Luxembourg 4-0 away, and now have very little chance of topping the group.
Portugal had their first chance in the 4th minute as Nani delivered in a good cross in and Hugo Almeida set it up for Ruben MIcael but he his shot lacked power and went wide.
In the 16th minute Tal Ben Haim ran forward and set up up Maharan Radi but his shot from just outside the box went wide.
Portugal went 1-0 up in the 27th minute as Pepe hit the ball across the goal and Ricardo Costa slid in past Ben Haim to score.
In the 41st minute Pepe delivered a good corner but the ball could only find Almeida's chest and bounced out just wide, and at half-time it remained 1-0.
In the 52nd minute Israel had their best chance so far as Henri Ben Harush broke down the left then cut inside, but his shot went straight to Rui Patricio.
In the 53rd minute Almeida had a goal ruled out, as headed the ball home from an off-side position.
Ricardo Costa almost had a second in the 62nd minute but his far post header from a corner bounced up and over the bar.
Debutant Josue came close for Portugal in the 70th minute, as Nani fed the ball to him seconds after coming on as a substitute, but his shot went just wide.
Two minutes later Josue set up fellow substitute Nelson Oliveria, but but his attempted lob went wrong.
In the 78th minute Miguel Veloso set up Vitorino Antunes but his first-time shot was well saved by Dudu Aouate in the Israeli goal.
In the 85th minute Israel bounced back through a goalkeeping error, as Patricio passed the ball straight to Eden Ben Basat, who made no mistake in slotting the ball home to make it 1-1.
Cristiano Ronaldo had a chance in the 90th minute but Aouate made a good save to knock it out for a corner.
