The third month of the 2021/22 campaign has arrived, with many players who moved to new clubs in the recent transfer window still finding their rhythm and others having already settled in with their new coaches and colleagues.
There are, however, still several footballers who are perhaps training alone as their search for a new team continues, including former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere, who recently spoke candidly about his struggles.
"When you're at a club and training every day, you wake up and if you're not in a team, or even if you are in the team, you think, 'Right, I've got to train well today. I need to show the manager I'm ready for the weekend,'" he told The Athletic in August.
"I don't have that. If I was too good, someone would come and at least give me a chance, let me go and train there or let me try and prove myself to them. At what point do I say, 'Enough is enough?' I don't know, to be honest."
After leaving Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day, Ivory Coast right-back Serge Aurier remains a free agent, as is 17-time South Africa international May Mahlangu. The 32-year-old last represented Ordabasy in Kazakhstan, and is currently still sidelined with a long-term injury that he suffered in April.
Following a fallout with Sao Paulo's board last month, 38-year-old Dani Alves is also available for free, along with former Bordeaux midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa, who was linked with a move to the African continent in September.
