Pirlo Scheduled For Juve Contract Talks

Juventus have moved to staunch the flow of rumours that Andrea Pirlo wants out from the club.

The veteran midfielder walked straight into the dressing room after being substituted during Juve’s recent win over Hellas Verona, leading to suggesting that he is unhappy at The Old Lady.

After the incident, Juve boss Antonio Conte instituted a rule that all substituted players will now have to watch the remainder of matches from the bench, and the club has moved to allay fears that Pirlo is itching for the exit.

The World Cup winning playmaker said before the start of the season that he will decide where his future lies at the end of the campaign, with clubs from across Europe keeping a sharp eye on his situation.

And Juve now say they will broach the topic of a contract renewal with the classy schemer early in 2014.

"There is no issue with Pirlo at all," the club’s general manager, Beppe Marotta, told Tuttosport.

"At the end of the day, Pirlo has not done anything untoward.

“We’ve spoken with him (over a new contract), serenely, and we said that we’ll talk again in February or March."

Pirlo is on record as saying he wants to play, not just hang around, and will leave if he becomes a burden on resources in Turin.

“The years go by and there's nothing that says that I have to stay just because I'm Pirlo. I want to feel I'm important and crucial to the side's success, otherwise I'll leave," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

But the president of Fiat, Juve’s biggest backer, is adamant that Pirlo remains a vital cog in Serie A champions’ machine.

"I have no comment regarding the rumours from Spain or England or anywhere else," John Elkann said, according to Soccernet.

"Pirlo is a great player and our squad has been strengthened and the aim is to keep it this way."
