Pique: Barca Were Slaves To Tiki-Taka

The European football media is reporting that Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has spilled the beans in a remarkable interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, to be released on Wednesday.

Barca’s players have all been singing from the same songbook since Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino arrived at the club.

They all say that the Argentine was well-versed in Barca’s much-vaunted system of ‘tiki-taka’ when he arrived to replace Tito Vilanova for the new season.

The system had been ingrained at the Camp Nou by Pep Guardiola to great, almost revered effect, and it appears to be a club edict to insist that things have not changed under Tata.

But reports suggest that Pique is singing off key.

He has admitted that under Guardiola, Barca “were slaves to tiki-taka”, and that the philosophy stagnated under Vilanova when Guardiola left.

And while Martino is clearly au fait with the system that Pep in place, Pique is believed to be pleased that Tata is teaching the team a new way too.

Meanwhile, publications from across Europe like Record, Marca and more, have been put on red alert by La Gazzetta, to expect revelations about the inside workings of Barca under Tito and Pep.

Pique is believed to have revealed that the rumours were true, and that he and Guardiola did not enjoy the healthiest of personal relationships, mainly due to the former manager’s critcicism of the defenders life away from football.
