Steven Pienaar kept Everton in the hunt for a top four finish as his 16th minute goal handed them a 1-0 win over Fulham at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The former Bafana Bafana captain was on hand to complete a superb team move early on in the game and it proved to be enough for the hosts to claim the spoils.
Marouane Fellaini worked Mark Schwarzer just four minutes in with a downward header before the decisive moment arrived when Seamus Coleman pulled the ball back to Pienaar who rolled it home.
Victor Anichebe then fed Nikica Jelavic who failed to get his shot off while Fellaini flashed a shot across the face of goal in the 36th minute.
Kacaniklic responded at the other end with a wayward effort while Mladen Petric went close with two minutes left in the half.
The Cottagers improved after the break with Urby Emmanuelson sending a shot just wide in the 54th minute before Phil Jagielka flicked a chance just wide.
Kevin Mirallas had a shot tipped over with 14 minutes to go while Fellaini somehow missed an open goal with five minutes left as Everton looked to wrap up the win.
In the end the solitary goal from Pienaar proved to be enough as the Toffees kept pressure on Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Arsenal.
