Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has announced his retirement from international football.
The Gunners defender has ended his international career at the age of 29, having made 104 appearances for the national side, scoring four goals in the process.
The defender revealed his decision to Suddeutsche Zeitung after winning the 2014 World Cup last month.
"First and foremost it was for me to do so, after ten years to determine the national team the end of this chapter itself." Mertesacker told Suddeutsche Zeitung.
Mertesacker, is now the third player from 2014 World Cup squad to retire, following defender Philipp Lahm and the tournament's all-time top scorer, Miroslav Klose.
