Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is feeling confident after his side came from behind to beat ‘the best team’ in the Premier League 2-1 at the Etihad on Boxing Day leaving Luis Suarez a frustrated figure.
Pellegrini’s men knocked Liverpool off top spot and moved City into second spot on the table just one point behind new leaders Arsenal with the Chilean praising his defence after the win.
"It was very important because Liverpool were the best team of the Premier League,” he said.
"They were top of the table before the match so if they won, they would be four points ahead of our team.”
"I am very happy with the response because it is not easy when you face such a difficult team, especially on the counter-attack when you are losing 1-0.
"It is very easy to leave space for them. I think we defended very well," the City boss added.
City’s manager also mentioned the way his side frustrated Liverpool’s star man Luis Suarez who was a constant threat throughout the 90 minutes.
"They did very well, especially against Suarez.”
"He is a great striker. He is in his best moment so it was very difficult for our team not to lose one second in the whole match," Pellegrini concluded.
