The son of legendary Brazilian footballer Pele has revealed that his father is currently depressed and too embarrassed to leave his house.
Having won three FIFA World Cups in his glittering career, the first when he was just 17 years old, Pele is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
The Selecao icon, who will turn 80 later this year, has battled with health and physical issues in recent years, and sadly cannot walk without help at the moment.
In a recent interview, his son Edinho spoke candidly about his father's situation, revealing that the former Santos superstar is too ashamed to leave his own house because of the poor condition he is in.
"He's pretty fragile," he told TV Globo.
"He had a hip replacement and didn't have an adequate or ideal rehabilitation.
"So he has this problem with mobility and that has set off a kind of depression. Imagine, he's the king, he was always such an imposing figure, and today he can't walk properly.
"He's embarrassed, he doesn't want to go out, be seen, or do practically anything that involves leaving the house.
"He is very sheepish, reclusive."
