A wonderful Pedro hat-trick and a Cesc Fàbregas goal secured an important away win for Barcelona over Rayo Vallecano at the Estadio de Vallecas.
In what has been an exciting, free-flowing first half, the Catalan giants secured a narrow lead through Pedro's strike, but the home team did have try and push forward looking to give their fans something to cheer about.
Trashorras missed a chance to level from the spot for the hosts in the 36th minute, after being fouled by Adriano, when Victor Valdes saved a penalty in his second consecutive game, diving to his right.
Pedro’s first goal was setup by none other than superstar Lionel Messi, beating two players before sliding a pass to his compatriot to finish in the bottom corner.
Barca’s pacey winger scored his and the games second when Rayo were caught out in possession in midfield, giving Cesc Fàbregas the opportunity to supply Pedro with the perfect cross to slot home.
The World Cup winner then rounded off his hat-trick after tapping in at the back post, following some sumptuous work by Neymar and Fàbregas.
Fàbregas capped off a solid performance by getting on the score sheet himself after Xavi set up his Spanish teammate to round off a solid away performance by the Catalans.
Rayo captain Trashorras looked most likely to score for the home side but Barcelona shot stopper Victor Valdes was too good on the night and deserved his clean sheet, while the result temporarily put Barca three points clear at the top of the league.
