Paris Saint-Germain have given up on signing Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria as confirmed by the club’s president on Thursday.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed that the French champions had been in negotiations for the 26-year-old, but have now decided to end their chase because Di Maria is 'too expensive'.
"I have been in negotiations for Di María with my friend Florentino Pérez, but for me the player is too expensive and we have stopped negotiations", Al-Khelaifi told the media.
It seems as Financial Fair Play played a part in the club’s decision as they are under restrictions following their massive spending spread over the last few years.
It had been reported that the club tried to agree to a loan-deal for the Argentina star, but Real themselves need a cash injection following their signings this summer.
PSG’s withdrawal has opened the door for Manchester United and AS Monaco to acquire the services of Di Maria. The player, meanwhile, has returned to Real Madrid and joined the team practice on Wednesday.
