Pardew Lays Blame On Ref

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew admits he is disappointed with his side’s showing following their third round FA Cup exit at the hands of Cardiff City, but lays part of the blame on the referee.

Goals from Craig Noone and Fraizer Campbell saw Cardiff come from behind to beat Newcaslte 2-1, but Pardew feels some indecision by the referee cost them the equalising goal from Noone.

“I thought the ref should have given a free-kick before then. He let a little incident go,” said Pardew.

“He put the whistle to his lips and momentarily that makes you stop.

“And it was that indecision by him that made us back off a bit and gave him a chance to shoot.

“But it's one of them, I don't want to go on about the referee.”

Pardew went on to add that he was bemused by the result and understands that the fans are getting upset with the team for not winning silverware.

“It is [disappointing] and I am bemused because I think we had a more than strong enough team to win that game,” added Pardew.

“I felt they were in good shape, had good control of the game and really and truly, the last period just got away from us, and we can't afford for that to happen.

“We want to win a trophy here, they (the fans) are desperate for a trophy. It's been a long, long time and we are not going to win a trophy going out in the third round.”
