Mesut Ozil says that Arsenal’s current form proves they can end their long wait to win a trophy this season.
The Gunners are currently sitting pretty at the top of the English Premier League, with a five point gap over their nearest rivals.
German international Ozil has been central to Arsenal’s eye-catching form since his arrival from Real Madrid, and he is emboldened by the good results that have followed.
Asked by Bild if he thinks the Gunners are genuine title contenders in England this season, Ozil was emphatic.
"Why not," he said. "If you have a five-point lead after ten games, you also have the makings to end the season on top."
It must have been tough for Ozil to leave Real Madrid on a moment’s notice. After all, the Bernabeu is considered one of the meccas of club football.
However, the former Werder Bremen star believes more and more that joining Arsenal on transfer deadline was the right choice for his life and football career.
"Frankly. Everything at Arsenal is great fun. The manager, the teammates, London life -- I feel really great there," he said.
Ozil was speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League showdown with Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
The Gunners have already suffered home defeat to the Bundesliga side this season, and while he believes they have a chance to reverse that result, Ozil admits Dortmund must be considered one of the favourites to win the Champions League.
"Whoever beats us at home, is among the title favourite’s," he said. "Dortmund had a strong team last season. And I have the impression that they have become even better."
