Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud believes the fans that boo him during the 2016 European Championship were supporters of the exiled Real Madrid star Karim Benzema.
Bale Comments On Pogba's World Record Fee
The 29-year-old, who led the line for France at Euro 16, received an endless amount of jeers from supporters throughout the tournament, as they appeared to protest the suspension of Benzema.
Benzema was left out of the France team, due to his involvement in the Mathieu Valbuena sex tape scandal and according to Giroud he paid the price for this decision that was made.
"Yes, it annoyed me,” he told Le Parisien.
"I was not even remotely responsible for this story and I did not understand the kind of hatred that developed against me."
"I realised that the people who booed me were not anti-Giroud, but pro-Benzema.
"It could not be otherwise. I came from a great season with Arsenal. It was just disappointing."
The striker made his debut for the French national team back in 2011 and has gone onto make 55 appearances, scoring 20 goals.
