Now Ibra Says Bale's Not Worth It

Zlatan Ibrahimovic seems to think he has entered the stage of his career when he is an elder statesman, and is free to speak his mind.

Hot on the heels of branding his former manager at Barcelona, Pep Guardiola, “a spineless coward,” he has added his voice to the debate regarding Gareth Bale’s world record transfer to Real Madrid.

On the day that Bale first trained with his new club-mates, Ibra has become the latest football insider to opine that the Welshman was not worth the money Real spent on him.

Now before Real Madrid fans begin to foam at the mouth, Ibra’s assertion does not mean he thinks that Bale is a bad a player.

It simply means that the outspoken Swede believes lavishing so much money on a young player- who has not won any major silverware- is proof that football transfers have been blown out of proportion.

“No footballer is worth paying that amount of money for," Ibra said, in a typically entertaining interview with the BBC.

"There is a lot of pressure on him [Bale].

"I know that when Zinedine Zidane played for Madrid, the fans were whistling against him.

"If they can whistle against Zidane, for me one of the best players in history, I hope Bale has a lot of patience."

Having introduced himself to Los Blancos last week by claiming it had always been his dream to play for the club, Bale reminded Ibra of his own ‘dream move’ to Barcelona.

His comments about Guardiola reveal everything about how Ibra’s ill-fated spell at the Camp Nou ended, and so he has warned Bale that sometimes sweet dreams can turn sour in football.

"I had a dream to come to Barcelona," Ibra explained.

"But afterwards I am thinking that maybe you should keep your dreams, instead of making it come true.

"Bale's move is similar to my transfer to Barcelona, but what creates that situation and the fee is the media, the selling club and how desperate the buying club are to buy a big name."

Meanwhile, Ibra has finally admitted that he may not ever take his league-winning magnetism with him to the English Premier League.

England is one of the few top-flight places where he has not played, but he says that time is running out for him.

"To come to England? My time has passed," he said.

"I am above 30, I have a good relationship with PSG, with the team. I feel that I can bring out all my qualities at PSG. I have a big responsibility also at PSG. So in my mind, no.”
