No More Tears

Cristiano Ronaldo’s notorious sadness has passed.

The Real Madrid superstar set tongues wagging and the gears of the rumour mill in motion earlier this season, when he claimed something behind the scenes at the Bernabeu had made him maudlin.

Ever since then, he has been linked to PSG, Manchester United and Manchester City, as the newspapers seek to generate shock CR7 headlines.

In an interview with AS, Ronaldo has now insisted that money and contract wrangling was not at the heart of his ‘sadness.’

And he has reassured Real fans that “something has changed”, and he is no longer moping around the corridors of the Bernabeu like a dog whose owner has gone away on vacation.

"Yes, something has changed because I am doing what I like, which is playing football and I feel very good on the field and with my team-mates," Ronaldo said.

"Maybe I have also changed my way of thinking and being. At this moment I feel better than I did then."

It had been speculated that Ronaldo was unhappy that he was no longer the world’s best paid player, and had been in a funk over hiswages.

But he insists that money had nothing to do with his tears.

"I am not going to talk much about that, because the truth is that for me the most important thing, what is in my head and my aims, is that Madrid wins the Champions League and the Copa del Rey," Ronaldo said.

"The contract renewal is a subject I do not want to talk about. It does not concern me now. The only important thing now is the team and we will speak at the end of the season. I swear by my son that my ‘unhappiness’ was never a question of money. It was not."

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has revealed what his birthday wish was when he turned 28-years-old on Tuesday.

He says the best present he could get is cup Double with Real Madrid this season.

"The first present I would ask for is la Decima [a tenth European Cup for Madrid], something that is very special for Real Madrid after so many years without winning it and also, logically, special for me," he said.

"The Champions League is the biggest for a player and I am very excited about winning it this year. There is also the Copa del Rey with Madrid, because we know that La Liga is now very difficult."
