Neymar Working To Equal Ronaldinho

After completing his much vaunted move to Barcelona, Brazil sensation Neymar says he hopes to emulate the achievements of his compatriot Ronaldinho at the club.

Ronaldinho played for the Spanish giants from 2003 to 2008, and won two La Liga titles and the Champions League during his time at the Camp Nou.

But it was the style in which El Gaucho played that endeared him to the Barca faithful forever, dazzling with an array of tricks never seen before, importantly allied to the finished product.

21-year-old Neymar is now the most hyped Brazilian since Ronaldinho, and has the same carefree style of play as the great, bucktoothed icon.

But he admits that he still has some way to go to measure up to Ronaldinho’s achievements at Barca, even though he is determined to make his own mark at the club.

"You cannot compare anyone with Ronaldinho," Neymar said in an interview with Barca TV.

"He made history at Barcelona, he made history in the Brazil national team and he continues to make history.

"In my case I am only just starting to make history and I also hope to be able to leave my mark here in Barcelona."

Meanwhile, cynics say that Neymar tends to overcomplicate matters on the field, with one step-over too many a hindrance to his development as true world-class player.

But he says that it was the “simplicity” of Barca’s play that attracted him to the club, when his former team Santos were taught a footballing lesson by the Catalan maestros at the Club World Cup in 2011.

And so it could be that Neymar evolves into more mature, less extravagant player now that he had made his move to Europe.

"What struck me most was the simplicity of Barca's play," Neymar recalled of the 4-0 thrashing Barca gave Santos, in a game he says has been his greatest lesson in football.

"The simplicity they were able to impose on every game was sensational.

"Barca left everyone open-mouthed. Not just the Barca fans or the media but even the Santos players."
