Manchester City avenged their FA Cup final defeat to Wigan Athletic, hammering the recently relegated side beating 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium with Stevan Jovetic scoring his first goals for the club.
The home side dominated proceedings from the off but could not make their superiority count, with striker Edin Dzeko missing a handful of scoring opportunities in the opening 30 minutes of this Capital One Cup clash.
Dzeko did however atone for those earlier misses with a clinical finish after being set up by Fernandinho in the 33rd minute.
City’s new signing Jovetic made a £25 million transfer from Fiorentina in the summer, got on the score sheet for the first time for the team from Manchester, doubling their lead in the 60th minute at the Etihad.
Substitute Yaya Toure, not often used to playing off the substitute’s bench made his mark by adding to the home sides score-sheet with a goal in the 76th minute.
New boy Jovetic then struck his second of the game, as well as his second in the blue of Manchester City with seven minutes to go, and Jesus Navas completed the rout in the 86th minute avenging the nightmare defeat in last season’s FA Cup Final.
The blue side of Manchester will be extremely happy with their teams’ display over the past week with a confidence boosting 4-1 derby win over neighbours and rivals Manchester United, as well as this comfortable Capital One Cup win over Wigan.
