It’s understood that talks are ongoing over a new deal and Rossell said: “It would be very difficult for Messi to leave.”
The 26-year-old Argentine signed a new contract in December last year that runs until 2018 but the contract contains a release clasue of £215m.
So far Messi has always indicated he doesn’t look for a new challenge and wants to finish his career at the Nou Camp.
The Argentine has scored 223 La Liga goals in 257 matches and 65 Champions League gaols in 82 matches for Barca. He has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or for the past four consecutive years and became Barca’s all-time top scorer in all official club competitions at the age of 24.
