A brace from both Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko helped Manchester City to a comfortable 5-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in an FA Cup third round replay at the Etihad on Wednesday night.
Negredo scored either side of half time while Edin Dzeko found the third goal just after the hour mark.
Sergio Aguero scored the fourth goal with his first touch as a second half substitute before Dzeko found his second to sure up the victory that sees City into the fourth round of the FA cup.
City were certainly the better team throughout the match and created their first chance on goal in the eighth minute as Dzeko blazed over from close range after being played through on goal by Negredo.
The home side’s next decent effort on goal only came in the 25th minute as Javi Garcia let fly from distance, but he saw his low grass-cutter well-saved by the Blackburn goalkeeper.
Ten minutes later Jesus Navas was at his menacing best down the flank, but his teasing cross was whispers away from being tucked home by Negredo at the near post.
Finally, seconds before the half time whistle City made their pressure tell as Negredo powerfully headed home a Fernandinho cross, 1-0.
City started the second half where they left off and doubled their lead three minutes after the restart as Negerdo coolly tucked home an inch perfect pass from Aleksandar Kolarov, 2-0.
Dzeko made certain of the win in the 67th minute after he produced a clinical finish at the front post to power home a low Navas cross from the right, 3-0.
The icing on the cake for City was Aguero’s goal, the Argentine scoring with his first touch as a second half substitute in the 73rd minute, controlling well in the box before turning his marker and firing home, 4-0.
Dzeko found his second goal of the night in the 80th minute, again meeting a low cross from the right with a perfect finish from six-yards out, 5-0.
