Nasri Sidelined For Two Months

Manchester City became the first team to win six consecutive Premier League games this season, but thei paid the hard-earned 2-0 victory over Newcastle with a big injury blow.

Their French midfielder, Samir Nasri, is set to miss two months due to damaging his knee ligament after a horrible tackle from Newcastle defender, Yanga-Mbiwa.

After the match, City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, expressed his dissatisfaction that the 24-year-old defender only got a yellow card for his foul on Nasri.

“It should have been a red card for the tackle by Yanga-Mbiwa on Samir Nasri. A direct red card – we didn’t have any extra help from the referee today,” Pellegrini said.

“Nasri has a serious injury with his knee – it was directly a red card.”

The France midfielder was feared to be ruled out for the rest of the season and potentially even the 2014 World Cup, but initial results indicated Nasri could be back in action after just two months.

Newcastle defender, Yanga-Mbiwa, who caused the injury, says there was no intent in injuring Nasri and he has tried to call the City player to apologize for his tackle.

“I definitely didn’t intend to hurt him. It was more a willingness to trip him up but there was no malice,” Yanga-Mbiwa told L’Equipe.

Yanga-Mbiwa was born in Central African Republic but has been capped three times for France and was thankful to hear that the injury of his national teammate was not more serious.

“When I heard that (Nasri is only out for two months), I was relieved,” the French international added.

Meanwhile, Pellegrini also confirmed that Manchester City’s first two substitutions to Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko were also based on small injury worries.

“Yaya’s had a problem with his back all week and it was worse today during the game,” Pellegrini continued.

“Dzeko also has a problem with his calf from another foul by Newcastle.”

Despite the injury concerns, the City manager was happy with the important win and praised in particular the defensive performance of his team in a game which they probably wouldn’t have won at the beginning of the season.

“We are improving, maybe at the start of the season we would have lost the game but we’re better now and we won,” the Chilean added.
